Nearly a thousand children have been infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Iloilo City.
From January to August 18, the City Health Office recorded a total of 995 COVID-19 infections involving children, of which 111 are active cases.
Of the total number, 154 were logged from Aug. 1 to 18.
“COVID-19 is still spreading and continues to pose a threat to vulnerable sectors including our elders and our children,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.
To protect their children, Treñas encouraged parents to take part in the global vaccination against COVID-19.
According to the mayor, the city can inoculate 13 thousand individuals a day.
Meanwhile, Treñas said the city government has opened vaccination sites in the metropolis to “all interested persons whether they are from the city or the province.”
“We need to vaccinate as many as we can. The Delta variant is more infectious and more virulent.”
Last Thursday, Aug. 19, the successfully inoculated a total of 9, 740 people coming from different provinces.IMT
