The construction of a flyover in Barangay Ungka II, Pavia town, Iloilo is set to start on Monday, Jan 13.
Engineer Jose Al Fruto, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6) assistant regional director, said the project will be undertaken by International Builders Corp.
Specifically, the 453.70-meter Ungka II Flyover will be constructed at the junction of Sen. Benigno S. Aquino Jr. Avenue and Iloilo Circumferential Road.
The P480-million project, funded by the DPWH-6, is expected to be completed in the first half of 2021.
Fruto said four of the six-lane national highway at the construction area will be closed.
The road closure will start 50 meters from the Petron gas station in Ungka II.
Fruto asked commuters “to be extra patient” as heavy traffic is expected to be experienced in areas affected by the project.
The DPWH-6 advised private vehicles coming from the Iloilo International Airport and central towns of Iloilo province going to Jaro district and the City Proper and vice versa to use the Iloilo – Sta. Barbara road (particularly Rizal Street – Taft Street – Brgy. Agutayan-Brgy. Cabugao Norte-Tigum, Pavia – Pagsanga-an, Pavia – Tacas, Jaro, Iloilo City).
On the other hand, private vehicles going to Mandurriao and Molo districts and vice versa were advised to pass the Oton, San Miguel, and Sta. Barbara road (particularly Bangga Dama, Sta. Barbara – Bangga San Jose, San Miguel – left turn at Iloilo City Aleosan road towards Jibao-an, Mandurriao, Iloilo City).
The Ungka II Flyover is one of the four flyovers lobbied by Ilonggo Senator Franklin Drilon to ease traffic in Iloilo City and its neighboring towns.IMT
