The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6) assured that the construction of the two flyovers in the town of Pavia, Iloilo will be completed this year.
Engineer Ormel Santos, head of the DPWH’s Construction Division, said the projects are being undertaken by International Builders Corp. (IBC) in the amount of more than P1 billion.
The four-lane, 453.70-meter long Ungka flyover, specifically located at the intersection of the circumferential road and Benigno S. Aquino Avenue, is scheduled for completion by the first quarter of 2022.
Meanwhile, the P560-million flyover in Barangay Aganan, also in Pavia, is set to be done in the third quarter of the year.
Ilonggo Senator Franklin Drilon, who lobbied for the implementation of the projects, said the flyovers would “reduce traffic in those areas.”
“We have to move quickly to solve this traffic congestion which irks drivers, commuters and tourists. We must prevent being compared to Metro Manila and Cebu City in terms of the gravity of traffic. It will not be good for the image of the city that we have worked hard on for several years.”IMT
