Nearly 3,000 passengers were stranded at the Iloilo International Airport on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, data from airline companies showed.
Flights from and to the airport in the town of Cabatuan were cancelled after flight operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport had been put on hold.
The cancellation affected 1,399 Cebu Pacific passengers, 806 Philippine Airline passengers, and 498 AirAsia passengers.
According the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the disruption was due to
to a power outage and technical issues in air traffic control.
“The flight delays and directions are only precautionary measures to ensure the safety of passengers, crew, and aircraft,” CAAP said in a statement.
The Department of Transportation apologized for any inconvenience brought by the incident” and directed the airlines to “provide food, refreshments, transportation, lodging, and accommodation for all affected passengers, free of charge.”IMT
