The Iloilo City Government will assign additional personnel to help improve the flow of traffic in Barangay Ungka, Jaro district.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Jan. 3, Mayor Jerry Treñas said they are planning hire 100 more traffic aides and some of them will be deployed in the Ungka Flyover area.

Few weeks after its opening in September last year, the controversial flyover was closed to traffic due to the “vertical displacement” issue.

The temporary closure of the P680-million structure, which was built supposedly to make travel to and from the Iloilo airport easier and faster, has been causing heavy traffic especially during rush hours.

“We will add more traffic aides there. We will just have to handle that, we just have to manage it, anhon ta na bi kay wala pa matapos. May mga ulobrahon pa na da. Butangan ta lang dugang nga mga traffic aides para madasig ang pagsulod sang mga salakyan kag pagwa,” said Treñas.

The additional traffic aides, according to the mayor, will undergo training before deploying them in their areas of assignment.

Currently, the city has 314 traffic aides who are divided into two shifts for deployment.IMT
