A fire destroyed several houses in Zone 6, Barangay Boulevard, Molo district, Iloilo City on the evening of Christmas Eve, Dec. 24.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) said the blaze, which broke out around 6 p.m., lasted for almost three hours.

The fire started at the house owned by Freddie Portillo and spread quickly to nearby houses that are mostly made of light materials.

According to Senior Inspector Jesus J. Valenzuela of the Bureau of fire Protection (BFP), the fire was caused by unattended cooking.

Thirteen houses were gutted down while two others were damaged in the incident. 

Two persons were hurt in the incident but no fatalities were reported.

Damage caused by fire was pegged at P420,000.

A total of 33 families were affected. They are currently staying at Baluarte Elementary School.

Families, whose homes were totally damaged will receive P10,000 each, while those with partially damaged homes will get P7,000 each from the city government.IMT
