Wise sets, powerful attacks, solid blocks.

These were the factors that made Chery Tiggo Thunderbolts claimed the championship title of the recent Gametime National 20-Under Women’s Volleyball League in Maasin, Iloilo, April 4.

The Negrenses capitalized on their veterans and defeated sister-team Toby’s Sports-Bacolod in three straight sets, 25-15, 25-17, 25-12.

Providing the sparks for the Thunderbolts, Katherine Shaine Cortez steered Bacolod Tay Tung High School and was hailed as the Most Valuable Player and Best Setter.

Mentored by coach Roberto Calamba, other Thunderbolts awardees were Alex Montoro as Best Opposite Spiker and Gwen Toledo Bañas as Best Libero.

Toby’s Dona Mae de Leon was named Best Middle Blocker while Ilongga Ana Hermosura got the Best Server plum.
