Lieutenant General Camilo Cascolan, who served as head of several police stations in the province of Iloilo, has been chosen by President Rodrigo Duterte as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The appointment of Cascolan was confirmed by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
“We are confident that the incoming Chief of the PNP would continue the significant strides made by his predecessors in making the PNP a professional organization worthy of our people’s trust,” Roque said.
Cascolan replaced General Archie Gamboa, his batchmate in the Philippine Military Academy’s Sinagtala Class of 1986. He was the second-highest official in the PNP as deputy chief.
Gamboa is set to retire today, Sept. 2.
The country’s new top cop had been assigned to police stations in Barotac Nuevo, Ajuy and Balasan from 1992 until 1998.
Cascolan also led the 2nd Iloilo Cafgu Active Auxilliary, 1st Iloilo Provincial Mobile Group in Tigbauan, and the 3rd Iloilo Provincial Mobile Group in Sara.
The Baguio City-native cop earned his master’s degree in Public Management at the University of the Philippines Visayas in 1995.
