Governor Rhodora Cadiao clarified that the controversial toilet facility at the EBJ Freedom Park in the town of San Jose de Buenavista, Antique is not funded by the provincial government.

The facility, which has four unpartitioned toilet bowls, is part of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority’s (TIEZA) project worth more than P17 million, Cadiao said in an interview over radio station Radyo Pilipinas-Iloilo.

The project aims to develop various plazas in Antique. The contract to undertake the project was awarded to Aiden and Ayn Construction.

“It was first used during the celebration of the Tiringbanay Festival and is under the direct supervision of the development partner LGU (local government unit) which is San Jose de Buenavista,” the provincial government said on its official Facecook page.

According to Cadiao, they already wrote a letter to TIEZA chief operating officer Mark Lapid informing him about the status of the facility.

TIEZA is a government-owned and controlled corporation (GOCC) attached to the Department of Tourism (DOT).IMT
