The Cacho family vowed to help displaced sidewalk vendors in Iloilo City make their businesses flourish.

About 250 sidewalk vendors were transferred to the Cachos’ 2700-square meter property along JM Basa Street, City Proper.

Marcelo Cacho, administrative manager and head of the Public Engagement and Government Affairs of Panay Electric Company (PECO), said they would assist the vendors in innovating.

“We want to help them. We will see what we can do to make sure that their businesses will be sustainable,” he said during the sideline of ILOILOvation 2019, a Business Matching and Investment Forum held on Tuesday at the Iloilo Convention Center in Mandurriao district.

This, according to Cacho, will be a collaborative endeavor.

They are also planning to come up with events inside their property to attract more customers.

“Let say damu to gaobra sapatos. We will hold a shoe-fixing contest. Mahatag kami prize sa winner, we will shoulder it. Whoever can fix the shoe the best is the winner. Like mangita kita sang pinakaguba nga sapatos kag pakay-o sa ila,” Cacho said.

“We will do this kind of event every month. Different products ang aton i-feature so the area becomes viable,” he added.

The cacho family also committed to develop the area.

“We will restore the old façade of the Cacho building but the inside will be developed as a market gid ya with full roofing and food court sa second floor. It will really become an economic center,” said Cacho.

Earlier, Cacho announced that they would allow the vendors to use their property rent-free for one year.

“Nalipay gid kami kay sa sulod sang one year libre kami,” said Iloilo City Federation of Sidewalk Vendors Association (ICFSVA) president Jimmy Dorado.IMT
