The Iloilo Business Club (IBC) is expecting that beneficial effects of the implementation of the new traffic plan in metropolis will be felt eventually.
Commuters on Monday, June 13 — the second day of the implementation of the city’s Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) — struggled to ride limited public transport.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) – approved LPTRP introduces new routes and prohibits provincial jeepneys from entering the city.
“We are only seeing the early days of implementation with the expected difficulties in the transition,” IBC said in a statement.
But the business group hoped that “with more time and further planning by our local authorities, the commuting experience of the public, especially of the workers and employees in the city, will significantly improve.”
In a press conference, City Mayor Jerry Treñas said the city government is open to “revise” the transport plan.
“All options are on the table. I think if the situation is so chaotic and will not result in a better transport plan for our commuters, I do not see any reason why we should not revise it to make it more reactionary to the needs of our commuters,” he said.
The crafting and implementation of LPTRP is in accordance with the Department of Transportation Department Order No. 2017-011.IMT
