Majority of the new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Western Visayas are classified as indigenous or local.
The Department of Health (DOH-6) registered 84 additional infections on Monday, Aug. 10.
Sixty-nine of the newly infected individuals acquired the disease through local transmission. The rest of the cases involved locally stranded individuals (12) and returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs).
Iloilo City logged the most number of the latest cases at 30, followed by Iloilo province, 23; Negros Occidental, 21; Bacolod City, 6; Capiz, 2; and Aklan, 1.
The DOH-6 also recorded 42 new recoveries.
Meanwhile, the death toll from COVID-19 increased to 31 with one new fatality.
The fatality is a 48-year-old male from Bacolod City (WV Patient No. 2017).
