Starting next month, Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan will accept fully vaccinated visitors without presenting negative RT-PCR test results.
Governor Florencio Miraflores said they agreed to accept tourists with proof of complete COVID-19 vaccination when the island reaches 100 percent inoculation rate.
The local government unit (LGU) of Malay is targeting to have all active tourism workers and eligible residents of Boracay fully vaccinated against the viral disease in November.
Based on data released by the Malay Tourism Office, 91.09 percent or 11,668 of tourism workers and 62.78 percent or 15,350 of the island’s eligible population were already vaccinated as of Oct. 24.
Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said they are confident that with 100 percent of tourism workers in Boracay inoculated, tourism arrivals on the island will further increase and more tourism establishments will be able to reopen to restore jobs.
