Disaster risk reduction and management offices in Western Visayas were advised to prepare for Tropical Depression “Bising”.

The tropical depression, which is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tomorrow, April 16, is forecast to bring rains over the Visayas.

In an advisory issued on Wednesday afternoon, April 14, Office of Civil Defense (OCD-6) director Jose Roberto Nuñez told LGUs to “conduct risk communication activities, disseminate warning messages, advisories, and relevant directives, and to initiate pre-disaster risk assessment and other emergency meetings when applicable.”

LGUs should also “activate their respective emergency operations centers when necessary, conduct resource inventory for response, and preposition their assets and rescue teams.”

While bracing for the tropical depression, Nuñez said the LGUs should continue to strictly enforce measures against COVID-19.

The weather disturbance, as of 3 a.m. on Wednesday, was spotted 1,210 kilometers east of Mindanao outside the PAR.

It is moving north-northwest at speed of 10 kilometers per hour.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the tropical depression is not likely to hit land.IMT
