The House of Representatives has approved on third and final reading bills declaring Gigantes Islands and Tambaliza Island in the Fifth District of Iloilo province as ecotourism zones.

House Bill 7884 or “An Act Declaring Islas de Gigantes as an Ecotourism Zone” and House Bill 8295 or “An Act Declaring Tambaliza Island as an Ecotourism Zone” are authored by Fifth District Representative Raul “Boboy” Tupas.

The bills “aim to ensure the holistic development of Islas de Gigantes and Tambaliza Island into tourist destinations to stimulate investment and create job oppotunities for Ilonggos while also ensuring the protection of the natural resources within the areas for enjoyment of the present and future generations.”

Islas de Gigantes is in the town of Carles while Tambaliza Island is in the town of Concepcion.

Tupas is confident that his bills’ counterpart in the Senate will be approved.

“Ginamonitor kag follow up naton ang counterpart bills sa Senado,” he said.

Once the Senate approves the measures, they will be ratified by both chambers. The ratified bills will then be sent to President Rodrigo Duterte for his signature.IMT
