BDO Unibank Inc. (BDO) received a Platinum Award for Excellence in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) for the 13th straight year at The Asset 2023 Awards in Hong Kong. The Asset ESG Corporate Awards through leading research house Asset Benchmark Research is the longest-running ESG awards in Asia.
The Asset Awards judges use a highly stringent criteria which include financial performance, corporate governance, environmental and social responsibility, and investor relations.
BDO recognizes the critical role of financial institutions in managing its environmental and social risks and finance the country’s transition to a low-carbon economy. In 2021, BDO financed a mix of 54 renewable energy projects for wind, solar, geothermal, hydro, and biomass energy sources accounting for 2,230 megawatts of total installed capacity nationwide. The Bank continues to expand its Sustainable Finance initiatives, in place since 2010, towards funding new and existing renewable energy projects to increase their capacity, and support the country’s avoidance of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. BDO also finances energy efficiency projects and green buildings.

BDO also won the Best Sustainability Bond for Financial Institution in the Philippines at The Asset Triple A Country Awards 2022 for Sustainable Finance. This award was for the P52.7 billion ASEAN sustainability bond, the largest ESG-related bond offering from a non-sovereign Philippine issuer.
Apart from The Asset Awards, BDO has recently been named as Top Sustainability Advocate in Asia for the second consecutive year at the 2022 Asia Corporate Excellence & Sustainability (ACES) Awards in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
