Showing an emphatic performance, Barotac Nuevo booters claimed the 2023 Iloilo School Sports Council Inter-Division Meet elementary boys football tournament at the Iloilo Sports Complex.
Representing the Schools Division of Iloilo, Barotacnons hammered Schools Division of Iloilo City – West Visayas State University counterparts twice in their best-of-three finale.
Before snatching the crown, SDO Iloilo-Barotac Nuevo wowed the crowd after a 15-0 domination against SDO-Iloilo City on April 16.
Leading the assault, Drystan Alexandrae Delgado-Torres was unassailable, draining six goals for the team. Alfin Bayotas followed Delgado-Torres with three conversions, while team captain Nathan Howard Caligdong, Jhon Army Condino, Vinz Kyru Bragancia, Gian Michael Porras, John Lorenz Segocio, and Fritz Azhryl Chavez scored one goal apiece.
In the second game, SDO Iloilo-Barotac Nuevo continued their winning momentum against SDO-Iloilo City, 9-0, courtesy of a hat trick from Bayotas.
Chipping in one goal each, Caligdong, Segocio, Delgado-Torres, Carl Justin Gabayno and Kurt Arnel Deoduco secured the title for the football capital of the country.
The Jasper Jan Santos-mentored Barotacnons will try to capture the another title as they represent Iloilo Province to the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet next week in Aklan.
Also part of the SDO Iloilo-Barotac Nuevo squad were goalkeeper Finley Nate Bedia, Gem Andrei Dequit, James Michael Consular, Neil John Biclar, Ezekiel Joan Surmieda, Bryan Ejar, Nhelro Valderama and Raiver Paul Fernandez.
Ariel Bedic, team’s trainer and mentor is set to prepare his teams as they battle with powerhouse teams from Negros Occidental, Aklan and Capiz to reach the Palarong Pambansa contest scheduled later this year.
