The volleyball teams of Ball Busters and Loyalty pulled off a stunner in the just-concluded Street Volleyball tournament held at the Salvacion Elementary School grounds in Buenavista town, Aug. 18, 2019.
In the women’s division, volleybelles from Ball Busters easily blasted Supang National High School (SNHS) in the gold medal match. Team Plok-plok also made waves in the tournament after snatching the silver medal.
Spikers from Team Loyalty made a fiercing performance after winning the gold against Blank Phoenix and Hot Cuts, which ranked second and third placers, respectively.
Guimaras Sports Consultant and organizer Dr. Richard Gabayoyo said the game was a 3-on-3 volleyball clash wherein the team to reach 21 points will win the match.
“This is a mini volleyball tournament that will test the players’ stamina and agility. It served as a fund raising project for Guimaras’ unsung heroes during the recent sea tragedy in the Iloilo Strait,” he added.
The event will help crew and porters and they encouraged players to donate canned goods, food packs, and other things needed by the beneficiaries. The P200 registration fee will be turned over to the local government unit (LGU) of Guimaras.
The event which was supported by Governor Samuel Gumarin also received medals and cash prizes.
“Due to a temporary stoppage of boat operations, we the want to help the affected porters and crew. That in our own way, we can be an instrument of kindness and generosity,” he added. IMT
