Tadaima! It’s great to be back in the industry they say has no bread to offer and people suggested I must not pursue. They failed on convincing me though. I finished Journalism at West Visayas State University in 2003 and became a feature writer, columnist, and news reporter for print media.
My last write-up however was in The News Today as I formally bid goodbye to my profession in 2007. It has been 18 years since and never had an annum passed I did not consider writing again, from when I worked for a seafood factory, car assembly, digital company and in government schools in Japan where I stayed for seven long years as a teacher, which inspired me to establish five branches of tutorial centers and a primary school based on Japanese system and strategies, in the Province of Iloilo. Ask which I love more, teaching or writing? Both, equally!
This time, I am not writing for peso, but for the love of it and I have dread for this moment that I would not worry anymore about how much or how will I live!
My last column ID at SunStar Weekend was “The Apeiron.” A Greek word for “boundless, unlimited or infinite.’ It was adopted from our Journalism class publication because of the idea of freedom, of discussing about various facets of life. It was usually seen in the center pages of the magazines covering about society events and stories of people who have notable contributions in Iloilo.
As I pondered whether to use the same ID on my comeback, I realized that with the duration of my absence, too many have changed. Social networking apps and websites take for example have stolen the limelight and tasks of both print and broadcast media, wherein anybody could be bloggers, reporters, broadcasters, cartoonists, photo or videographers, and editors.
Everyone possesses channels to engage and influence. Moreover, in this digital, modern and technological era, we live in a circle where one’s thoughts or opinion tantamount to power! Thus, “Hyougen Circle.” Hyougen as Japanese word for expression in any act or form!
In this ID we will be featuring or sharing our thoughts on entrepreneurial ventures, social groups and events, health activities, arts and any form of expression that’s trending or catches our attention worthy to be publicized.
I am Mary Fortaleza Morano, IMT’s freelanced feature and opinion columnist. See you here in my next issue and feedback should you have any request or suggestion for my next topic, could be anything under the sun, and why?
Mina san, ja ne!
