Several pigs tested positive for African swine fever (ASF) in the town of Lambunao, Iloilo province.
Provincial Veterinary Office head Dr. Darel Tabuada said the infected hogs came from a farm in Barangay Jayubo.
Lambunao is the 26th town in the province hit by the highly contagious ASF. The disease affects pigs, warthogs and boars. It cannot be transmitted to humans.
In an interview with town mayor Reynor Gonzales, he said 57 pigs in the area have so far been culled to prevent the further spread of ASF.
He added that the local government is closely monitoring the movement of pigs and pork products within the village.
The first ASF cases in the province was detected in Oton. It spread to San Miguel, Alimodian, Sta. Barbara, Leganes, New Lucena, Mina, Janiuay, Dumangas, Barotac Nuevo, Pototan, Dingle, Banate, Barotac Viejo, Ajuy, Concepcion, San Dionisio, Batad, Estancia, Balasan, Zarraga, Maasin, Badiangan, Dueñas, and San Enrique.IMT
