The highly contagious African Swine Fever (ASF) has spread to another town in the province of Iloilo.
Mayor Dennis Superficial confirmed the detection of the deadly disease among pigs in Barangay Balabag, Santa Barbara.
Prior to the confirmation of ASF cases, eight pigs had already died, according to Superficial.
Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Darel Tabuada said ASF affected three backyard farms in the village. All live hogs within the 500-meter radius will be depopulated.
Santa Barbara is the fifth town in the province to have recorded ASF cases. Other ASF-hit towns are Oton, San Miguel, Leganes, and Alimodian.
As of Nov. 7, a total of 700 pigs have already been depopulated in Oton, 195 in San Miguel, 80 in Leganes and 57 in Alimodian.
