An American company has proposed to operate “solar-powered flying pods” or cable cars in Iloilo City.
US-based Transit X submitted its unsolicited proposal to Mayor Jerry P. Treñas for a “green privately-funded high capacity solar-powered 24/7 automated pod network” in the city.
“To proceed to establish a network, Transit X requires a formal guarantee of Right-of way and Air Rights which will make each project fundable by private investors,” the company stated.
The proposal was forwarded to the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s (SP) transportation committee for evaluation and assessment.
Councilor Ely Estante, vice chair of the Committee on Transportation, said Transit X will shoulder all costs that come with the implementation of the proposed transport system.
“Waay gastuson ang city, sila tanan magasto. Ang obrahon lang sang syudad is to identify sang area nga butangan nila sang ila poste nga angtan sang ila cable cars,” he said.
According to Estante, Transit X offered a five percent share to the city government from its gross revenue.
This project is expected to reduce traffic congestion, provide parking relief, reduce pollution, and improve safety in public transportation.
The system can operate 72 kilometers per hour service to 310 stops. It has 77 kilometer network with 7, 087 pods.
Each cable car, which weighs 45 kilograms (100 lbs), has a loading capacity of five passengers.
“Subong ginaschedule ta sila para sa ila presentation sang ila project sa City Council,” Estante said.IMT
