Three variants of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been detected in the province of Iloilo.

Provincial Administrator Atty. Suzette Mamon said the province logged 15 Alpha variant cases, 14 Beta variant cases and one P.3 variant case.

The figures were based on a report submitted by the Department of Health (DOH-6) to the provincial government on Thursday, July 22.

According to Mamon, all the patients who contracted the new variants of COVID-19 had already “fully recovered.”

The Provincial Health Office (PHO) has yet to identify the whereabouts of those involved in the cases.

It will also determine if the cases are local or returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs).

The Alpha variant was first detected in the United Kingdom while the Beta variant was first detected in South Africa.

The P.3 variant, now called Theta, was first detected in the Philippines.

The entire province of Iloilo is currently under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ). It has the highest active COVID-19 cases in the whole Western Visayas region with 2,704.IMT
