The concreting of an access road between the villages of Guihaman to Buntatala in the town of Leganes, Iloilo has now been completed.

The P9.68-million project includes the construction of 1.29-kilometer, 4.20-meter, 2-way Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP). It was undertaken by the DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office.

The fund was taken from the Sustainable Infrastructure Project Alleviating Gaps (SIPAG) under the District’s Fiscal Year 2022 Infrastructure Program.

DPWH-6 Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno said the access road makes a vital contribution to economic development and growth in the locality and provides easy access to basic services and economic opportunities for an improved quality of life, citing the report of OIC-District Engineer Mario G. Soriano.

“This paved road traverses along rice fields and other agricultural lands, hence, its improvement will greatly benefit the people, especially rice and vegetable farmers, and animal raisers,” said Bueno.

“With this concrete road, we are hopeful that our farmers can easily transport their products from farms to the market, which could eventually help alleviate their economic condition,” he added

Meantime, Soriano said the road will provide access from Metro Iloilo Radial Road to Iloilo-Capiz Road (new route), which is one of the main thoroughfares heading to northern Iloilo and neighboring provinces of Capiz and Aklan.

“This road will provide convenient alternate route from Leganes and other coastal towns of northern Iloilo to Iloilo International Airport, without passing along Iloilo Circumferential Road, reducing travel time and traffic congestion, considering of the ongoing construction of flyover in the metro,” he further said.IMT
