Starting November 16, fully vaccinated tourists will be allowed to enter the world-famous Boracay Island in Aklan.
Those who wanted to go to the island need only to present their vaccination cards instead of negative swab test results, according to Governor Florencio Miraflores.
They may either submit a VaxCert secured via vaxcert.doh.gov.ph or a vaccine certificate issued by their respective local government units (LGUs).
The Deparment of Tourism (DOT) welcomed the move to scrap the RT-PCR test requirement for fully vaccinated visitors.
Boracay experienced a dramatic increase of tourist arrivals in the last 2 months, with a total of 32,452 visitors in October, the DOT noted.
“We hope to see even more visitors for the months of November and December, given this positive development, and ensure everyone’s safety altogether now that Boracay’s full vaxxed tourism workers are at 94%, while its entire eligible population is at 70% vaccinated,” it said.
“The DOT, in coordination with National Task Force against COVID-19 Chief Implementer Carlito Galvez, Jr. and Deputy Chief Implementer Vince Dizon, initiated the vaccination program for tourism workers in Boracay last July,” the tourism department added.
Boracay is known for its powdery white sand and crystal clear waters.IMT
