The Department of Tourism (DOT-6) has reiterated that only visitors from areas under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) and GCQ are allowed to enter Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan.
This, after several Ilonggos and individuals posted on social media their frustrations after they were not permitted to enter the famous white sand beach.
The city and province of Iloilo are currently under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), the second strictest containment classification.
According to DOT-6 Regional Director Cristine Mansinares, the movement of all persons in areas placed under MECQ will be limited to accessing goods and services from permitted establishments, for work in such establishments, or for such other activities allowed under IATF Omnibus Guidelines on the Implementation of Community Quarantine in the Philippines.
“Further, the entry of individuals for leisure purposes is dependent on the requirement of accepting LGUs,” she clarified.
Meanwhile, the Malay Tourism Office recorded 72 visitors in Boracay a week since it reopened its doors to domestic tourists.
Of the figure, 41 came from Aklan, 11 from Capiz, 7 from Iloilo City, 5 from the Iloilo province, 4 from NCR, 2 from Zamboanga del Sur and one each from Batangas and Cebu.IMT
