People who are not vaccinated against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) are barred from entering the Iloilo City Hall for one week.
The prohibition, which aims to “minimize the possibility of infection due to the threat of the more contagious Delta variant,” took effect on Monday, August 2.
“Please understand that the City Hall is an enclosed building. While there are windows that are opened, not all offices have one. The Delta variant of the virus is several times more infectious than the original variant or the Alpha, Beta, or other variants,” Mayor Jerry Trenas explained.
“Furthermore, it has been shown that the Delta variant virus stays in the air for a while even if the infected individual is gone. This is for the protection both of the workers and the visitors,” he added.
The city is under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ). It has 1,352 active cases of COVID-19, based on the August 1 bulletin issued by the Department of Health (DOH-6).
Last week, the city recorded its first case of the Delta variant.IMT
