The entire city of Iloilo has been placed under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), the second most stringent quarantine classification in the Philippines.
The escalation of the city’s quarantine status from the least restrictive modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) took effect on Sunday, May 23, until 11:59 p.m. of May 31, 2021, unless otherwise extended or lifted earlier.”
“Based on the parameters set by the DOH, Iloilo City has been categorized under the ‘High-Risk’ epidemic level as of May 15, 2021, prompting a higher and stricter quarantine classification to curb the alarming increase in COVID-19 cases in the locality,” Executive Order No. 041 stated.
The city government’s COVID-19 Response Team reported an increase of 209.1 percent in the daily average rate of cases in May from the previous month.
Based on the May 22 bulletin issued by the Department of Health (DOH-6), the city has a total of 7,086 confirmed cases of COVID-19, of which 5,950 have recovered, 194 have died and 939 are considered active.
Mayor Jerry Treñas issued the EO after the National Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) headed by DOH Secretary Francisco Duque approved their request to upgrade the city’s quarantine status.
Under MECQ, strict home quarantine should be observed in all households. Movement of persons should be limited to accessing essential goods and services, and for work in permitted offices or establishments or such activities allowed.IMT
