Two persons died in separate shooting incidents in Iloilo City during the observance of the Holy Week this year.
Carl Dominic Labuson, 19, of Barangay Cari Mayor in Leganes town, Iloilo province, was shot dead along Metropolis Avenue in Barangay Tagbak, Jaro district around 7:30 p.m. on Black Saturday, April 3.
The victim, son of Leganes Sangguniang Bayan Board (SB) member Larry Labuson, was shot twice in the head by a robber who was driving a motorcycle.
He was rushed to Metro Iloilo Hospital and Medical Center but declared dead on arrival.
A police report said Labuson chased the suspect who attempted to rob a woman at the nearby Jardeleza Arcade.
The suspect stopped near the entrance of Metropolis Subdivision to pull out his gun and fire shots at Labuson.
The unidentified suspect is still at large.
In City Proper, Joemar Sanchez , 29, of Barangay Bitoon, Jaro, was gunned down by a security guard on Holy Wednesday, March 31.
Sanchez, a food delivery rider, suffered five gunshot wounds in his body.
The victim and the suspect, Argie Solis of Laua-an, Antique, had a heated argument, prompting the later to draw his gun and fired at the victim pointblank.
Solis fled the crime scene but was later collared in Sibalom, Antique. He is currently at the Iloilo City Police Station 1.
Mayor Jerry Treñas condemned “in the strongest possible terms” the two shooting incidents that transpired in the city.
“Iloilo City will never tolerate violent incidents to happen in our beloved place. This is not the way things are done in a civilized society,” he said.IMT
