Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. has directed local officials and the police force in the province of Iloilo “to strictly enforce health protocols and quarantine measures to preempt the spike of COVID-19 cases.”
In his memorandum dated March 10, 2021, Defensor specifically enjoined the director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), municipal and city police chiefs, municipal and city mayors, and punong barangays to undertake the enforcement in public places.
“All are earnestly enjoined to strictly enforce compliance with minimum public health standards, especially: (1.) Wearing of face masks; (2.) Washing of hands; and (3.) Physical distancing,” the memorandum stated.
Defensor also reiterated the prohibition on public gatherings, which include birthday, fiesta, anniversary, wedding, and baptismal celebrations; funeral public wake viewing; and local government unit (LGU) events such as festivals and socio-cultural activities.
“No parties and celebrations in resorts and similar establishments. Only family, household or small group excursions,” said Defensor.
The governor also requested police officers “to conduct patrolling, inspection and exercise visitorial power to enforce minimum public health standards and quarantines measures.”
The Provincial Health Office (PHO) recorded 4,734 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday, March 9. Of the figure, 3,999 have recovered, 127 have died, and 608 are considered active cases.IMT
