The lone resident of Anilao town in Iloilo province who tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has died.
The death of the 39-year-old male repatriate was confirmed by the Department of Health (DOH-6) on Saturday, June 6.
He is the first repatriated local strandee in Western Visayas who succumbed to the disease.
Tagged as WV 115, the infected patient arrived in Iloilo from Manila on May 28. The result of his RT-PCR test was released on Tuesday, June 2.
He was brought to Anilao’s quarantine facility but was later transferred to the Western Visayas Sanitarium in Santa Barbara town.
Mayor Lee Ann Debuque said she was shocked upon learning the death of their resident.
According to her, the patient exhibited only mild symptoms of COVID-19 and was in stable condition.
“As of this present time, padayon ang imbestigasyon sang mga katapo sang Western Visayas Sanitarium agud mabal-an sang matul-id kag masayran ang rason sang iya kamatayon,” she said.
“Kaangot sini, nagpadala na ang Anilao LGU sang letter of inquiry sa medical center chief sang nasambit nga ospital bangud ang ini nga hitabo naghatag sang dako nga katingala sa amon kag sa iya pamilya.
Debuque vowed to extend financial assistance to the bereaved family of the deceased.
The mayor told the residents not to panic and to remain calm.
“Kabay nga pabakuron naton ang aton pagtu-o nga ini tanan mga panghangkat lang sang panahon nga indi man naton mapaiway,” she said.
“Padayon kita nga mangin masinulundon sa mga ginapatuman nga protocols kag policies sang aton gobyerno para malikawan naton ang ining kahalalit nga virus,” Debuque added.
This new death brought the total COVID-19 fatalities in the region to 11.IMT
