Mayor Jerry Treñas expressed optimism that Iloilo City will win its fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“We hope that we can go back to normalcy after April 30,” Treñas said.

Last week, the mayor issued an executive order extending the city-wide enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until April 30.

Treñas once again emphasized the importance of public cooperation in making the city free of COVID-19.

“Ang akon lang ginapangayo kooperasyon because we have to open already. Naluoy ako sa mga pumoluyo ta nga waay trabaho,” he said.

Treñas is one of the local chief executives in the country who have been receiving praises for their COVID-19 efforts.

On Monday, April 13, the mayor ordered a total lockdown of Iloilo City during Saturdays and Sundays within the ECQ period.

“Gina-obra ta ni because we want to open already May 1. So kon may mga cases naman kita or transmission, ano pag abri ta sa May 1? Be responsible Ilonggos. Let us help flatten the curve, and stop the spread of COVID-19,” Treñas said.

The city currently has 5 confirmed cases of the viral disease, including 1 death and 1 recovery.

The numbers of persons under monitoring and patients under investigation for COVID-19 in the city are at 245 and 24, respectively.IMT
