Ninety-two barangays in the province of Iloilo have been identified as areas of concern for the October 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE).
Of the election areas of concern in the province, 21 are in the town of Janiuay, 14 in Badiangan, 11 in Maasin, 9 in Lambunao, and 6 each in Calinog and Igbaras.
The towns of Miagao, Alimodian, and Tubungan have 5 areas of concern each, Leon and San Joaquin have 3 each and Lemery, San Dionisio, Sara, and Cabatuan have 1 each.
The list of election areas of concern in the province was approved by the Regional Joint Security Coordinating Council (RJSCC) during its command conference on Thursday, Sept. 21.
Police Colonel Ronaldo Palomo, Iloilo Police Province Office (IPPO) director, said of those barangays included in the list, most are affected by communist insurgency. Some have history of election-related incidents.IMT
