Retail prices of rice in Western Visayas increased in June this year, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA-6).
Maria Theresa Solis, head of the Agribusiness Marketing and Assistance Division (AMAD) of DA-6, said rice prices in public markets went up by P1 to P1.50 per kilogram.
She attributed the increase to the high cost of production and the off season.
Meanwhile, Solis assured that WV, one of the top rice producers in the country, has sufficient supply of rice for the public.
Last year, WV’s self-sufficiency ratio of rice was at 120 percent.IMT
