Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas on Monday, March 14, said the national government has “no sense of urgency” in responding to relentless oil price increases.

“Ang national government most of the time hinay gid maghulag. Ang fuel subsidy wala gihapon narelease. Kami (local government units) ya gwa dayon, wala kami gapatinir,” he told reporters in a press conference.

“The situation is very serious, wala sense of urgency ang national government,” he added

According to the mayor, he would support transport operators and drivers in the city should they decide to temporarily stop operating due to the continuous fuel price hikes.

“They have my support. Kon kaya ko maghatag bugas kag canned goods mahatag ko sa ila,” he said.

In a previous report by IMT NEWS, the mayor said he is in favor of suspending the imposition of the 12 percent value-added tax (VAT) on gasoline, diesel and other oil products.

On Tuesday, March 15, oil companies imposed the biggest price hike on petroleum products so far this year.IMT
