Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. turned over checks amounting to P28 million to the province’s seven towns for the establishment of operations hubs and rescue boats which could be used in times of emergencies or disasters, according to a press report from the Capitol.
The towns of Miag-ao, Banate, Estancia, and Carles received P5 million each for the establishment of operations hubs which will complement the Provincial Civil Defense (ProCid) Operations Center at the Capitol.
The operations hubs will serve as an extension of the ProCid Operations Center in the recipient municipalities which will result to speedy response and efficient coordination especially in times of disasters and emergencies.
Miag-ao Vice Mayor Macario Napulan, Banate Mayor Peter Paul Gonzales, Estancia Mayor Mary Lynn Mosqueda, and Carles Mayor Siegfredo Betita received the checks for their respective towns during the turn-over ceremony held after the flag ceremony of the Capitol employees on March 27. The turn over was facilitated Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) chief Dr. Jerry Bionat.
Meanwhile, the municipalities of Estancia, Pavia, Tigbauan, and Leganes are the five recipients of rescue boats. Each recipient received P2 million for the purchase of two units rescue boats.
Pavia, a landlocked town, was included as recipient of rescue boats because of the usual occurrence of floods during stormy weather. The huge Aganan River traverses the said municipality which overflows when heavy rains pour in the mountains, the press report noted.
Defensor said the rescue boats could also be used by the coastal municipalities of Estancia, Tigbauan and Leganes in their coastal resource initiatives.
Estancia Mayor Mosqueda, Pavia Mayor Luigi Gorriceta, Tigbauan Mayor Virgilio Teruel and Leganes Mayor Vicente Jaen II received the checks for their respective municipalities.JBG/Capitol/ laf/PIA6-Iloilo
