The Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) and Barangay Affairs Office claimed that 60 to 70 percent of public roads in Iloilo City are now free from obstructions.
The city government’s “Oplan Hawan Karsada” was launched last July 30.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) issued a memorandum circular (MC) directing all mayors to clear the roads from illegally-parked cars and ambulant vendors within two months or 60 days from July 29.
The MC is in compliance with the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte during his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA).
The DILG stressed that those mayor who fail to comply the order will face sanctions.
City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas on Monday, Sept. 2, expressed confidence that they will meet the 60-day deadline for clearing operations.
Fernando Jose Rico, executive assistant for barangay affairs, said the city’s clearing team is determined to reclaim the roads that are being used for private purposes.
Meanwhile, Treñas said he will meet with sidewalk vendors affected by the clearing operations.
He assured that the city government would provide spaces for the displaced vendors.IMT
