Six mayors in Iloilo have been ordered by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to explain delays in the distribution of the SAP (Social Amelioration Program) cash aid.

The DILG issued show-cause orders to the mayors of Oton, Tigbauan, Tubungan, Alimodian, Leon, and Iloilo City.

These mayor failed to reach even 80 percent of social amelioration program (SAP) distribution in theor respective areas, according to the DILG.

Teodora Sumagaysay, DILG-Iloilo director, said the mayors are required to submit their written explanations within 48 hours.

The DILG gave local government units (LGUs) nationwide until May 10 to complete the distribution of the first tranche of the financial assistance.

The SAP cash aid is intended for poor families affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

In his previous interview, City Mayor Jerry Treñas cited the validation process of the beneficiaries as the major reason why the city government was not able to completely distribute the financial assistance immediately. IMT
