Five persons were arrested in Western Visayas for violating the gun ban enforced by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) as part of the security measures for the eight-day filing of certificate of candidacy (COCs).

According to Police Regional Office (PRO-6) spokesperson Police Luitenant Colonel Arnel Solis, two of the gun ban violators were from Bacolod City and one each from the provinces of Negros Occidental, Aklan and Iloilo.

The firearms confiscated from the violators were unlicensed.

One of the violators in Bacolod City was an alleged theft while the one in Negros Occidental was intercepted at a checkpoint.

In Aklan, the violator was nabbed in an entrapment operation while the one in Iloilo was caught carrying the firearm.

According to Solis, the violators will be facing charges for violating Republic Act 1091 or the Comprehensive Firearm and Ammunition Firearm Act.

The permit to carry firearms outside residence (PTCFOR) was suspended from Sept. 30 to Oct. 9.

The filing of COC in the region was generally peaceful, said Solis.IMT
