Four couples from the Ati indigenous peoples (IPs) group in Barangay Leong, Cabatuan, Iloilo tied the knot on Monday, Sept. 25.

The newly married couples were Romelyn and John Rey Baylon, Jaro Jean and Rene Palacios, Meriam and Gerald Seguro and Rodalyn and Jiero Casten.

The Catholic wedding ceremony was presided over by Fr. Arvin Largado, director of the Archdiocese of Jaro Commission on Indigenous Peoples (IPs), at San Nicholas de Tolentino Parish Church.

According to Largado, many indigenous people living in Iloilo province who have not received the sacrament of marriage.

“Nami gid nga nabindisyunan and ila nga pag-updanay sa simbahan. Amo na ang ginapatigayon naton nga ang mga IP nga nagalive in dapat makasal,” he said.

“[Aside] sa kasal, ginabunyagan pagid ila mga kabataan kag ginakumpirmahan,” Largado added.

The parish took care of the wedding expenses, including the gowns, bridal cars and food.

“Actually grabe ang kalipay nila. Once in a lifetime nga experience ini kay ti kun sila lang indi sila makasarang, pigado gid,” said Largado.IMT
