Representing not just Iloilo but the country as well, three jins are set to compete in the prestigious 2022 Asian Cadet/Junior/ ParaTaekwondo Championships in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from Aug. 22 to 27, 2022.

Julianna Martha Uy of Iloilo MVP Taekwondo Gym and Justin James Diasnes and Elizabeth Marie Borres of A. Diasnes Taekwondo Gym are part of the Smart/MVP Sports Foundation National Kyorugi and Poomsae Team that will compete in the said tournament.

The 45-player Philippine delegation will try to win medals as they face powerhouse teams around Asia.

Wining the bronze medal in the 2021 World Taekwondo Poomsae Open Challenge II “The Battle of all the Finalists”, Uy will compete in the Poomsae Senior Female category.

Diasnes, on the other hand, is set to compete in the Kyorugi Cadet Male event while Borres will play in Poomsae Junior Female category.

Diasnes is a member of Central Philippine University Golden Lions taekwondo team, while both Borres and Uy were products of the Ateneo de Iloilo women’s taekwondo squad.

The Philippine delegation is headed by Taekwondo Philippine Secretary General Raul Samson, Kyorugi coaches Devy John Singson and Carlos Jose Padilla and Poomsae coaches Rani Ortega and Rodolfo Reyes Jr.

For Iloilo MVP head coach Denmark Pinggol, he said he considers this journey as an answered prayer for their team.

“We are praying for the success of our lone MVPinian and to the rest of her Ilonggo and PHI teammates in this competition. We offer this journey to God and to our country kag sa aton pinalangga nga Iloilo City,” he added.IMT Sports
