More barangays in Iloilo City have been declared cleared of illegal drugs.

Another 27 barangays earned their status as drug-free.

The drug-cleared villages are as follows:

-CITY PROPER: Danao, Flores, Gloria, Hipodromo, Kahirupan, Kauswagan, Legaspi De La Rama, Magsaysay, Maria Clara, Ortiz, Osmeña, President, Roxas, Rizal Ibarra, and Veterans Village 

-LAPUZ: Libertad 

-AREVALO: Mohon and Sta. Filomena 

-JARO: Democracia, El 98 Castilla, Lopez Jaena, Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Lourdes, San Jose, San Roque, and Seminario

-MANDURRIAO: Santa Rosa and Taft North

The declaration was made by the Regional Oversight Committee headed by the director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-6).

The committee’s members are from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Health (DOH), Philippine National Police (PNP), and local government units (LGUs).

Mayor Jerry Treñas said he was “very happy” that more barangay in the city got the drug-free tag.

“I thank everyone for their support to this most important program,” he said.

Currently, there are 61 drug-cleared barangays in the city.

The city has a total of 180 barangays.

Treñas said their goal is to make all the barangays free from illegal drugs by next year.

The 34 barangays previously declared as drug-cleared were the following: 

-CITY PROPER: Arsenal Aduana, Inday, Nonoy, Rima-Rizal, Sto. Rosario Duran, Tanza Timawa Zone 1, Tanza Timawa Zone 2, Yulo Arroyo, Ed Ganzon, Roxas Village, Sampaguita, and San Jose 

-JARO: Javellana, Luna and Sta. Isabel

MANDURRIAO: Calajunan, Dungon C, Guzman-Jesena, Pali-Benedicto, PHHC Block 17, PHHC Block 22, and San Rafael

-MOLO: Avanceña, Poblacion, San Antonio, South Fundidor, and Taal 

-LA PAZ: Banuyao, Aguinaldo and Lopez Jaena Sur in La Paz

-LAPUZ: Loboc and Punong

-AREVALO: Quezon and San Jose in Arevalo

A barangay is considered drug-free in the absence of illegal drugs supply, transit or transhipment activity, drug laboratory or clandestine chemical warehouse, marijuana cultivation site, drug den, drug pusher, user or dependent, and drug protector, coddler or financier.IMT
