Western Visayas has logged the highest single-day tally of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) fatalities.

The Department of Health (DOH-6) on Friday, June 18, reported 27 new coronavirus-related deaths, raising the region’s death toll to 1,360.

Negros Occidental accounted for the most number of deaths at 308, followed by Bacolod City with 293, Iloilo province 256; Iloilo City, 249; Capiz, 121; Aklan, 59; Antique, 59; and Guimaras, 15.

The region also recorded 654 fresh COVID-19 cases, based on data submitted by all the 19 laboratories in the region.

Of the figure, 202 came from Iloilo province, 163 from Bacolod City, 160 from Negros Occidental, 97 from Iloilo City, 59 from Aklan, 53 from Capiz, 27 from Guimaras, and 21 from Antique.

The new infections jacked up the total caseload to 58,808, including 45,418 recoveries and 11,936 active cases.IMT
