Two hundred tubers from all over the country will compete in the Northern Antique River Festival 2019: 2nd National Extreme River Tubing Race this month.

The rivers of Bugang Tibiao rivers will serve as venues of the exciting water sports competition

According to Antique Eco-Tourism Association (AETA), Inc. president Flord Nicson Calawag, the event aims to promote the rivers of Bugang and Tibiao as sports and recreation areas for the locals and even tourists.

“We want to promote Antique as an eco-tourism hub wherein visitors can explore and enjoy the rivers for their recreation,” he said.

Aside from promotion, the events also expose the authorities to search and rescue operations.

The first edition of the national water tubing race was held in Tibiao last February 2018 and gathered positive feedbacks from the visitors and competing teams.

A plastic-free campaign on Oct. 26-27 will be also implemented where plastic water bottles will be prohibited. Participants and spectators are encouraged to bring tumblers and refillable water containers.

Water stations with reusable cups will also be placed in designated areas during the event.

AETA is an association of various resorts, hotels, restaurants, tourist establishments and community-based tourism organizations.

“We would like to invite all water enthusiasts to experience the clearest river of Bugang and the rushing river of Tibiao for the 2nd National Extreme River Tubing Race,” Calawag said.

“The event is open to adventure seekers from 15 years old and above. We want to show to world the natural wonders of Antique and to advocate for a clean water and healthy environment to everybody,” he added. IMT
