Two more repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Western Visayas tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Based on the May 28 bulletin issued by the Department of Health (DOH-6), the two latest cases involve a 33-year-old male from Lapuz district in Iloilo City and a 23-year-old male from Pandan, Antique.
The two asymptomatic patients are currently staying at quarantine facilities.
According to Dr. Renilyn Reyes, DOH-6 spokesperson, the patients tested negative for COVID-19 using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test kits in Manila.
“They are among the stranded OFWs who arrived in Iloilo City on May 25,” she said.
RT-PCR is considered by the DOH as the gold standard for COVID-19 testing in the Philippines.
The region now has 111 confirmed cases of the disease. The figure includes 78 recoveries and 10 deaths.
Of the total number, 35 are repatriated OFWs from Manila and Cebu.IMT
