The Western Visayas region now has 38 survivors of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), with two new recoveries reported on Saturday, May 9.

The Department of Health (DOH-6) said the two additional recoveries are a 21-year-old male from Miagao, Iloilo and a 42-year-old male from La Castellana, Negros Occidental.

“Our number of recoveries is increasing and that’s good news for the region,” said Dr. May Ann Soliva-Sta. Lucia.

On the other hand, the death toll from COVID-19 in Western Visayas remained at 10.

The region currently has a total of 92 confirmed cases of the dreaded disease. Included in the tally are the recoveries and deaths.

The province of Iloilo has the most number of cases in the region with 18, including 11 recoveries and four deaths.

The number of cases in the region also includes the stranded overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who tested positive for COVID-19.

The OFWs were reptriated from Cebu and Manila. 

Meanwhile, the DOH-6 reminded the public to continue practicing physical distancing and proper hygiene.IMT
