To develop grassroot programs in the island province of Guimaras, 17 teams competed in the 2023 Milo Champion’s basketball league held at the Lawi Gym in Jordan, Guimaras.
Organized by Dr. Richard Gabayoyo who is also the league commissioner, all teams are excited to compete and represent their respective teams. Five games were featured in the opening match – the Archegos against team PCBA in the 25-under event, Falcons vs Archegos in the 18-under, Eastern Waves vs Buluangan (18-U), Young Guns vs Holy Rosary (18-U), and team Lawi vs NV Growling Leopards for the last game of the day.
In the opener, Team Archegos played inspired basketball, capturing their first win of the tournament against PCBA.
Joeryn Malan was hailed Best Player of the Game after amassing 18 points, 13 rebounds, four blocks, and an assist. Completing the victory, Archegos also ruled the 18-U category after hammering the Falcons.
In other matches, Young Guns defeated Holy Rosary while NV Growling Leopards easily beat Lawi, thanks Roberto Pareñas.
Gracing the opening match, Milo Regional Sports Coordinator and Milo promotion and marketing officer, Grace Casulong also inspired aspiring players to do good in the sport they love. Also in attendance was Ramon Sonico Jr., the barangay captain of Law and Ms. Shellyn Bilbao who delivered an encouraging speech to formally start the event.
After the first elimination phase held in Lawi, the Milo Champion’s League will hold a road game in Nueva Valencia on April 23, 2023.
For Gabayoyo, he said the opening was very successful especially that funky fusion added color to the opening by dancing the jingle of Milo, plus the best player in every game also received an award from Milo.
“Everything was so excited during the opening day. On the road games, the league will be more thrilling and exciting given the fact that other teams will be given the opportunity that their relatives , friends and kasimanwas can be able to watch and support their games. Rest assured that with this system, it can hype the players to play well,” Gabayoyo told Iloilo Metropolitan Times.IMT Sports
