Floodwaters have subsided in 14 villages here while 16 others are still flooded as a result of the nonstop rains in the city since Monday, April 11, due to Tropical Depression Agaton.

Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Emergency Operations Center team leader Sharry Ledesma, in a phone interview on Tuesday, said floodwaters in other areas, almost ankle-to knee-high, were quick to subside.

On Monday night, rains inundated 30 barangays in the city.

The flooded areas now are in portions of Barangays Tanza Timawa and San Agustin- Mabini Street in the City Proper district; Sinikway, Alalasan, and Don Esteban in Lapuz, Block 17, Guzman Jesena, and Oñate de Leon in Mandurriao; San Isidro, Camalig, Cubay, Balabago-portion of Alta Tierra, Tabuc Suba, and Lanit in Jaro; Baldoza in La Paz; and West Timawa in Molo district.

“Only selected areas are flooded and not the whole barangay,” she said.

Around nine families or 39 individuals now stay at the barangay gym of Barangay Simon Ledesma.

They have been provided with family packs good for two days by the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
