A 10-year-old boy from Jaro district in Iloilo City died of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on Monday, Aug. 16.
Jeck Conlu, City COVID-19 Team spokesperson, said the boy was brought to a hospital after suffering symptoms of the deadly disease.
He was swabbed and found positive for SARS-Cov-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
Conlu said they have yet to determine how the boy, who had a health condition or comorbidity, contracted the disease.
Meanwhile, Mayor Jerry Treñas disclosed that two children, ages 7 and 11, were among those whose COVID-19 swab samples were sent to the Philippine Genome Center (PGC) in Manila for Delta variant tests.
“They are currently isolated,” said Treñas.
The mayor also revealed that there are four newborn babies staying in the city’s quarantine facilities.
“Most are due to the COVID-19 infection of the parents,” said Treñas.
Last week, the city started the registration for the 12-to17-year-old population who are willing to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
“The IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force) is yet to approve the vaccination of children aged 12-17. We are starting their pre-registration so we can start the roll-out once given the signal,” Treñas explained.
“While there is a virus lurking in the community, let us protect our loved ones by protecting ourselves. Let us be responsible in our actions to avoid COVID-19 transmission,” he added.IMT
